OMAX Corporation is seeking a CNC programmer - Process Engineer with experience utilizing contemporary CNC manufacturing techniques.  The qualified person who fills this position will work with the machine shop leadership team to develop effective CNC manufacturing processes for new and existing products, create CNC programming with Esprit programming software, identify optimal tooling and work-holding devices, enter purchase orders for tooling and work-holding devices as needed, create set-up documentation and spend some time operating the CNC machines which will enable the candidate to better understand the capabilities and limitations of the equipment.  This position will work both in the office and out in the machine shop where communication with machinists can be maximized.  This position is responsible for processing work as profitably and efficiently as possible, whereby the end result is a quality product delivered to the customer’s satisfaction.

  • Engineer CNC manufacturing processes that leverage modern manufacturing techniques.  Some of these techniques include utilizing 4th axis dovetail work-holding, quick change lathe work-holding, quick change capto tooling, solid carbide/through coolant drills, high-feed face mills, overhead gantry loading systems and 1000 PSI coolant
  • Analyze current manufacturing processes and suggest improvements
  • Design and draft work-holding using SolidWorks software
  • Create and develop CNC programs using Esprit, for mills with 4th axis, single and double turret/spindle lathes with live milling capability, 5 axis machining centers and Swiss machines
  • Purchase material, tooling and work-holding as needed
  • Create and edit set-up procedure documentation.  These procedures tell the machinist everything they need to know in order to successfully make a part
  • Communicate manufacturing process router steps to the Planning Team
  • Ensure set-up and cycle time standards are set accurately within the ERP system
  • Work with the Engineering team to promote “design for manufacturability” practices
  • Provide time studies, router review, suggestion follow up, manufacturing support and job cost review when needed
  • Monitor and report drawing changes to ensure products are made to the latest revision
  • Competent usage of basic Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrate characteristics such as self-motivation, integrity, creativity, respectfulness, kindness, trustworthiness, team player, good listener and enjoys working in a manufacturing environment


  • High School diploma or GED required – Associates Degree or Certification in related field preferred
  • At least 5 years of manual and CNC machine experience
  • At least 2 years of CNC programming experience.  This experience should include programming at the machine control, as well as with formal CAM software.  Esprit software experience is preferable but not required
  • SolidWorks drafting experience preferred but not required
  • Must have a proficient understanding of G-code and M-code programming
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting CNC machines
  • Able to demonstrate good manufacturing practices and be able to select tooling and machining resources for manufacture of products
  • Experience using a formal ERP system
  • Experience utilizing local tool vendors who provide tooling recommendations as well as material cutting data 
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Drawing with GD&T reading capabilities
  • Must be able to read and comprehend instructions in English as well as possess good oral communication skills
