Your unique role with us:
Lead every engineering employee to achieve excellence in their work, including CAD modeling and tool design, while providing supporting documentation that promotes manufacturing excellence and maintaining a professional interaction with customers. Develop and implement strategies to maximize departmental throughput. Explore and implement innovative ideas to advance design productivity, and tooling functionality, longevity, and performance.
Assign and manage all FEA, Reverse Engineering and Mold Design related activities throughout the department.
Manages the department’s backlog, sets priorities, resolves timing and needs conflicts, and sets department hours.
Establish, develop, and maintain professional connections with all Carlson customers
Lead Project Launch meetings to establish design and interdepartmental expectations as
they relate to the successful execution of the job, review customer inputs, establish
required outputs, and sets required project date milestones
Keep current with design team’s strengths, vulnerabilities and opportunities for growth
Coordinate with sales team, project managers, manufacturing leaders, and quality
personnel to establish best practices that relate to our design services and the integration

What we are looking for
A minimum of 5 years of technical school, work experience, or apprenticeship
Shop experience in cutting metal on a variety of tool room equipment, i.e. milling machines,
Thorough understanding of plastic injection molding, how the mold design affects the
process, and has expertise with a wide variety of tooling technologies.
Is capable of performing and interpreting engineering calculations and simulations that affect
tooling performance including heat transfer, fluid dynamics, metal stress/strain/fatigue, plastic
behavior, corrosion modes, energy & power, and basic mechanics.
