Located in Kearney Nebraska and Reporting to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering, the Controls Engineer performs engineering for controls systems design, specifications, programming, simulation and testing, and start
up assistant. Performs engineering and manufacturing analysis on an assigned project basis. Such projects include: improving operating performance through the development of new and revised production methods, new tooling and equipment selection and implementation, analyze proper utilization of employees and equipment, energy conservation, waste reduction, analysis of new materials, and waste removal.
  • Work on, program and troubleshoot Rockwell Automation RS500, RS5000 with either Micro Logix, Compact Logix or Control Logix.
  • Familiarity with programing HMI screens both AB and Automation Direct. Automation Direct PLC’s is also desired.
  • Siemens Step7 and / or Simotion PLC programming experience is also highly desirable.
  • Capable of troubleshooting all of these systems and improving their performance.
  • Formulates, recommends, assists, and coordinates in implementing manufacturing processes and procedures that result from project assignments. Areas of responsibility include:
    • DMEDI
    • Panel design and layout
    • Bill of materials
    • Wiring schematic capabilities
    • Reading and red-lining PI&D drawings
    • New tooling and equipment
    • Manpower and equipment utilization
    • Energy conservation
    • New materials
    • Waste reduction and disposal
  • Works closely with engineering and production personnel in reviewing and analyzing previously developed designs for purpose of making improvements.
  • Develops and coordinates comprehensive proposals for assigned projects for the purpose of manufacturing improved products and reducing operating costs while maintaining a safe work environment. Secure project funding through capital expense plans and updates. Provide engineering controls and programming service for issues arising in existing processes.
  • Coordinate and expedites assigned engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Participates in specific cost reduction programs. Implement control improvements on schedule and budget.
  • Responsible for efficiently coordinating outside vendor contact on projects that require their involvement.
  • As required, designs and performs CAD drawing functions to accomplish detail drawings. Also creates preventive maintenance and operating training procedures when necessary.
  • Utilizes various computer aided design stations, engineering tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Directs and assists set-up of new product lines and tools produced by other divisions and vendors.
  • Assures that drawings meet document control requirements.
  • Provides technical assistance to Tool Room, Technical Service, and Production personnel.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of developments in the field through contacts with professional societies, educational centers, journals, periodicals, etc.
  • Responsible for quality and safety of own work and compliance of all company procedures and policies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience.
  • Understanding of NEC, ANSI, OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Must be proficient with computers, engineering tools and measuring equipment.
  • Computer proficiency to include CAD and all Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, Project, etc.
