Mechanical Design Engineer-Product Development
 
Research, design, develop, coordinate, test and implement new product development projects. Improves upon the performance and design of existing products which include a range of digital and analog measurement instruments. We are a global organization with 6 facilities that collaborate to produce a high quality and reliable products.
 

EXPERTISE AND/OR ABILITIES  

  • Experience with research, design, and development of new products (industrial products preferred) and the processes required to efficiently manufacture them.
  • Project management experience in product development (scheduling, budgeting, costing, etc.)
  • Experience with materials (polymer and metals), mechanisms (statics, dynamics, Kinematics), heat transfer, mechanics of materials and fluid mechanics (pressure).
  • Knowledge of the concepts of Quality Management Practices, Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of machine shop practices, molding, press working, automatic assembly and industry-accepted drawing practices, including geometrical tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of medium to high volume product design and processes.
  • Strong skills in Solids Modeling, preferably with SolidWorks.
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research, design, develop and implement new product and process technology from conception through implementation, including conceptual development, productivity, prototyping, testing, tool/equipment/fixture procurement and implementation.
  • Manage concurrent new product development projects, including scheduling, budgeting and costing from conception through pilot run and production launch implementation.
  • Provide support and work direction to design and manufacturing resources (technicians, vendors, etc).
  • Create shop floor documentation, including operator instructions, routing, quality work plans, etc.
  • Implement product cost reduction and product upgrade projects.
  • Recommends alterations to development and design to improve products and/or procedures.
  • Reads and interprets technical drawings.  Creates and releases to manufacturing all technical drawings associated with new products, product modifications, tooling/fixturing, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Participate in cross-functional project coordination with marketing, sales, materials, supplies, shop operation, quality/business systems, etc.
 

Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering with three - five years’ experience with a proven track record of demonstrated creativity and accomplishment.
