Large multi-site privately held manufacturer that is located in Houston Texas. With 5 plants in North America, this position could be located at either their Houston or Monterrey Mexico facilities. It is a newly created role, that reports to a COO who has been given the task to upgrade and enhance their operations for continued growth. The company has been in existence for over 100 years and has an excellent reputation.
We are seeking an individual who is
who has the ability to spearhead the implementation of Lean, Operations Excellence and a Continuous Improvement culture into a company that historically has had a work force that is very stable and an environment that is somewhat unstructured. This is a highly visible opening that will allow the successful candidate to “make his/her mark” on the corporation. Success in this role will offer growth opportunities within the corporation.
The Operations Excellence Continuous Improvement Lead will be part of a management team that is implementing lean and enhancing processes, procedures, and systems throughout the corporation.
It is imperative that this person be capable to work independently, be proactive, and able to work effectively in spearheading the implementation of Lean continuous improvement and operational excellence for all Operations. You must drive break-through impact, establish sustainable systems, tools, and processes, and build our Lean Operating System.
As the Lean / Continuous Improvement Lead you will:
Define the current state, the future state vision, and the required roadmap initiatives;
Drive events and daily continuous improvement activities to improve productivity and quality. Drive kaizens, RIEs and other events / projects, e.g., SMED;
Work with Delivery organization to implement and scale Kanban;
Develop and encourage training, skills assessment, goal-setting, teamwork, information sharing, suggestion systems to foster CI and lean throughout the organization;
Act as a SME, coach and mentor for CI projects. Coach and train New Process teams on lean tools including problem solving, standard work and daily management.
As the Operational Excellence Lead you will:
Directly support, guide and lead operational sites to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost by providing training, establishing metrics, facilitating improvement events and leading projects;
Drive standardization and structure into operational processes and metrics;
Develop and upgrade standard operating procedures, tools and training;
Provide leadership for the Quality organization;
Develop and implement TPM / Equipment maintenance program;
Work with cross-functional team to drive implementation of job-costing, schedule management and attainment, scrap management and expenses management.
You should be familiar with the following KPI’s:
Quality (PPMs) / Internal and External NCR’s
BS degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Operations;
At least 10 years’ experience in manufacturing, engineering, supply chain or quality environment;
Minimum 5 years’ experience leading continuous improvement / lean functions;
Black-belt with hands-on experience implementing successful TPS based business systems including lean leadership, strategy deployment, daily management, VSM, standard work, 5S, TPM and SMED;
Knowledge in Quality operating systems and tools;
Problem solving proficiency: A3s, 8Ds, 5Ys, RCCA.
Ability to travel 50% of the time.
Likes being out on the plant floor;
Proven experience putting structure into unstructured environments;
Previous work experience in a ‘pedigreed’ Lean environment;
Been through a transformation – previous experience working in an environment start from scratch with no resources;
Ability to speak Spanish is required
