The Pilot Operations Manager is a key leadership position for this company, owning, developing and implementing the long-term strategic plan for transitioning new products from R&D into Manufacturing. The Pilot Plant Manager will manage the pilot plant team to ensure a smooth and timely transition of all new products from the development phase to production status. Work closely with R&D, Engineering, Mfg Mgmt, and Supply Chain to develop manufacturing processes to successfully launch new products in a highly efficient manner. Define and lead action plans to achieve launch dates, meet financial variances targets and improve time to market, safety and customers satisfaction.
Daily Needs:
1. Provide strategic leadership for the Pilot Plant Operations cross-functional team of engineering, materials, quality, maintenance, and production associates to achieve launch dates and Pro-firma financial variance targets and especially help create strategic direction and a five year plan for improvement. 2. Manage pilot operations performance through QCDS (Quality / Cost / Delivery and Safety ). 3. Prepare and improve pilot plant budget and achievements. 4. Track all projects going through the Pilot Plant and report to site leadership on launch status and issues. 5. Ensure projects achieve scheduled release dates. 6. Stabilize production cells against key indicators. 7. Work closely with plants (local and internationally) to transition new products that integrate well into the factory. 8. Lead safety efforts within the pilot plant. Ensure employees safety. 9. Ensure that the pilot operations comply with site regulations. 10. Ensure customers satisfaction with product quality and timely launches avoiding market backorder. 11. Stabilize/lean out all products that are in the launch phase with process FMEAs. Poke yoke each process to make sure the process is robust. 12. Track hourly outputs, key process OEE and scrap on products that are going through the launch phase and coordinate the effort to close all action items in a timely manner. 13. Manage planning and procurement of all products and their components to support pilot production builds. 14. Follow up on new products/technologies development and validation
Requirements:
BS Engineering or technical discipline/Graduate degree in Business or related profession preferred. Experience: Minimum 10 years in manufacturing with cross functional experience in disciplines of engineering, quality, and/or materials.MEDICAL DEVICE manufacturing experience highly preferred. Experience in managing new product launches and RECENT EXPERIENCE leading new product TRANSITIONS from R&D to Manufacturing with success.
Preferred Skills: Six Sigma and/or Lean Leader certification. Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects. Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functional groups including R&D, manufacturing, quality, logistics, etc.
SCOPE of POSITION: Sales Revenue: $100 million Cost of Production: $25 million Reports to Site Director Works in partnership with R&D, AME, Procurement, Logistics, Marketing and other internal functions. Manages direct staff of a Sr. Buyer/Planner and Production Supervisor and indirectly a staff including an Engineering Manager, Cost Accountant, Asst. Human Resources Mgr. and QA Supervisor.
